Fisher Galleries was established in 1870 in Christchurch, New Zealand. For 140 years and six generations the gallery was at the forefront of the New Zealand Art Market. Fisher Galleries specialised in selling artworks by New Zealand’s most renowned and sought after artists. The gallery also represented a number of leading international artists and sourced select international artworks for collectors in New Zealand.
At the end of 2010 Fisher Galleries closed. This was largely due to the Christchurch earthquakes and retirement of 5th generation owner and director John Fisher. Previously John's sons Simon & Michael Fisher left the company in 2007 and 2009 respectively to pursue their own business interests. John Fisher still has an active and personal interest in the art market and regularly provides advice for clients who are looking to buy or sell artworks by prominent New Zealand and International artists. Other services include valuation appraisals for sale or insurance, restoration advice and collection management.
